Adult Ministries

Adult Sunday School—9:00 am

Foundation Builders—Parlor

A variety of material is used for this class, including International Adult Bible Lessons and studies by J. Ellsworth Kalas, plus specific topics that the members of the group would like to explore. This class explores the Biblical basis for our Christian beliefs and how those beliefs impact our lives in the world today. Led by class members. Everyone is welcome!

Horizon—Room 104

A lively discussion group that studies a wide variety of books or videos selected by the members. Past study includes: Discover Your God-Given Gifts by Fortune, Miracles, Life After Life, and “Some Folks Feel the Rain, Other Just Get Wet.” We are generally in the 40-65 year old age group, and reach out to each other and to newcomers in friendship and understanding. Led by class members.

Currently the class is studying "Heaven" by Randy Alcorn during the 2005-2006 year. Dr. Randy Alcorn is a leading authority on Heaven and this is the most comprehensive and definitive book on Heaven to date. What is Heaven going to be like? What will we do?  How will we get there?  It is a bright, vibrant and physical New Earth, free from sin and suffering and full of Christ's presence, and the beauty and richness of human culture as God intended it.

Faith and Reason—Room 110

The Adventurers—Room 206

For the "approaching-middle-age" crowd, The Adventurers offer a weekly Sunday School class, with monthly social events. In Sunday school, the group uses books and videos for Bible-based learning. Most of the social events involve couples and their children. Activities include hiking, games and swimming. Occasionally the couples meet for dinner or other activities without children.

R.O.A.M

Volunteers from the FUMC R.O.A.M. program visit or call members of the church who are unable to attend our worship services. The visits and calls are short, friendly and made in the name of the church to let them know that our church cares about them.

We have formed a R.O.A.M. Committee consisting of six church members in order to coordinate all the older adult activities in the church. Members of this committee:

..... Oversee shut-in visitations
..... Oversee the mailing of cards to older members of the church on their birthdays and during
.........time of stress or illness
..... Oversee a clown ministry
..... Oversee visitation ministry including dog visitations to assisted living homes (seniors love this!)
..... Interview senior members of the congregation and then write articles about these members
.........for our church newsletter (The Spire)
..... Plan monthly outings for senior members of the church
..... Provide transportation services to church on Sundays and other outings
..... Write articles for our church newsletter on senior activities

We are currently looking for other ways to expand our ministries such as more intergenerational activities, asking seniors to be grandparents to children who have no grandparents, senior mentoring of young mothers etc.

For more information or to become involved, contact Pat Jones: 303-776-9931.
