Outreach Ministries

At FUMC of Longmont, we believe it is important to serve the community and provide Christian kindness and hospitality to all in need.

KIDS HOPE USA

...... One child......an at risk public elementary school student in your neighborhood with
................................emotional, social and academic needs.

...... One hour......sixty critical minutes each week when a mentor nurtures a one-to-one
................................relationship with a child who is just one person away from believing in herself.

...... One church...that wants a relational strategy to make a difference in the lives of children
................................and families in the neighborhood.

...... One school...a local public elementary school that is overwhelmed with the needs of
...............................children who are at-risk without a relationship with a caring adult.

For more information on KIDS HOPE visit the KIDS HOPE website.

First United Methodist Church of Longmont is a KIDS HOPE USA partner with Spangler Elementary School.

Cartridges for Kids is a major fundraiser for KIDS HOPE USA. Please save your empty ink cartridges and bring them to the church. There is a cupboard located on the western side of the Gallery to place them in. For more information, visit the Cartridges for Kids website.

If you are interested in being a KIDS HOPE mentor or have questions, please email Catherine Murphy or contact her by phone at 303-772-0122.

OUR Center Food Pantry

The OUR Center is a Longmont food assistance facility that houses a food pantry and serves a hot lunch seven days a week. First United Methodist Church supports the OUR Center through food and personal item donations. We are a loving congregation that cares about the needs of the community. This is an especially difficult time for Longmont families as the Food Stamp system is leaving them without food.

Church food drive: Item for Oct. is Tuna.

The OUR Center will also accept Similac baby formula, baby food, bags of beans, cereal, canned fruit, pasta, hair shampoo toothpast, canned soup and dishwashing liquid. As always, any donations of any kind of food or personal items are appreciated. Please put your items in the box marked OUR Center located on the western side of the Gallery.

PLEASE SAVE AND BRING TO FUMC

Used Ink Cartridges—save and bring in your old ink cartridges to benefit KIDS HOPE USA.

Old Cell Phones—save and bring in your cell phones to benefit KIDS HOPE USA

Box Tops for Education—cut these out and bring them in to benefit Spangler Elementary School, our KIDS HOPE USA partner school.

Campbell’s Soup Labels—these benefit United Methodist Women mission projects. Please cut them off and bring them in—but be sure the “Campbell’s” part is still in tact!

All items have cupboards or drawers labeled for collection located on the western side of the Gallery.

R.O.A.M.
(Reaching Older Adults Ministry)

Volunteers from the FUMC R.O.A.M. program visit or call members of the church who are unable to attend our worship services. The visits and calls are short, friendly and made in the name of the church to let them know that our church cares about them.

We have formed a R.O.A.M. Committee consisting of six church members in order to coordinate all the older adult activities in the church. Members of this committee:

...... Oversee shut-in visitations
...... Oversee the mailing of cards to older members of the church on their birthdays
..........and during time of stress or illness
...... Oversee a clown ministry
...... Oversee visitation ministry including dog visitations to assisted living homes (seniors love this!)
...... Interview senior members of the congregation and then write articles about these
..........members for our church newsletter (The Spire)
...... Plan monthly outings for senior members of the church
...... Provide transportation services to church on Sundays and other outings
...... Write articles for our church newsletter on senior activities

We are currently looking for other ways to expand our ministries such as more intergenerational activities, asking seniors to be grandparents to children who have no grandparents, senior mentoring of young mothers etc.
